Valentine’s Day is almost here and love is in the air! As stay-at-home moms, we love a date night out with our husbands. For this most romantic of holidays, we want to turn up the volume on our regular date night attire to set the tone for a special evening out. In this post, which we are both writing, we’d love to show you what we’ve got planned for our outfits and how to get a similar look. Since “brick” calls to mind something hard with edges, and “nests” calls to mind an inviting softness, we decided to play off that hard-soft contrast, and bring you one sexy and slightly edgy look (on Lisa) and one romantic and sweet look (on Jillian).
No sweetheart this Valentine’s Day? No problem! These outfits work just as well for a girls’ night out! While it’s nice to look good for someone special in your life, this post is really all about wearing outfits that make YOU feel fabulous!

Lisa’s Valentine’s Date Night Look
Most days, my husband Stew comes home to find me in some variation of my favorite comfy lounge clothes. I love to get dressed up, but I also love to be comfortable, so usually the first thing I do when I walk in the door is change into a sweatshirt, leggings, and slippers, and throw my hair up into a ponytail. And thankfully, Stew is under no illusion that June Cleaver is going to greet him at the door, in a dress, high heels, and perfectly coiffed hair. Besides, he thinks I look cute in my fuzzy slippers. 😊 Do I feel cozy? Yes. Sexy? Well, not in the traditional way. I really do believe that “sexy” isn’t in what you wear…but sometimes I just want to pull out all the stops and put on an outfit that makes me feel great and turns Stew’s head. 😍 And why not on Valentine’s Day?!
It’s way too chilly in February for me to even think of wearing a little dress unless it’s absolutely necessary. Cold legs are the worst. But cold shoulders? I can tolerate cold shoulders, especially since cold shoulder tops are so hot right now. I love the swingy shape and length of the sleeves of this black top (here is another similar option). I paired it with a favorite pair of J Brand dressy shimmer-coated jeans. The subtle shimmer finish elevates the denim into something special, but this pair or this pair, both with coated, almost leather-like finishes, would have a similar effect. And nothing has more sex appeal than a pair of cheetah print pumps. Back in November in this post, I told you about the Loeffler Randall pair I’m wearing in the picture below, and lucky for me, I nabbed them on sale. You can still get them here, or to get the look for less, try the Ann Taylor pair of leopard print pumps shown in the Get This Look section below, or this similar pair. I accessorized with a pair of earrings that remind me of Cupid’s arrows, and a couple of studded bracelets that look good with the elbow length sleeves. A great bracelet alternative for Valentine’s Day would be the Tory Burch black leather Amore wrap bracelet in the Get This Look section below. The sentiment spelled out on it may be sweet, but this bracelet is not the least bit saccharin. I always like a spritz of fragrance before heading out the door for a night out. Most days I wear this lovely soft perfume, but for a date night, I like to reach for something a little sexier. Balenciaga B. is the kind of fresh-but-alluring scent you want to nuzzle your nose into. Finally, I topped off my ensemble with a wine-colored, hourglass-shaped coat (similar and similar) for warmth with style.
Need a gift idea for your honey? I equate giving a man a watch with giving a woman jewelry–it’s always romantic and well-received! Combine that with a tech toy and all-in-one communication device, and you have an Apple Watch. Make it extra romantic by blowing it up with lots of lovey-dovey emojis! ❤😍😘💋 Or, staying in the tech theme, the Nixplay Cloud Frame, which digitally displays a rotating playlist of photos that can be constantly updated from your smart phone and social media accounts, would be a wonderful way to remind your Valentine of all your special moments together!
Jillian’s Valentine’s Date Night Look
Unlike Lisa, I actually don’t change into comfy clothes in the evening, mostly because I never get out of my gym clothes in the first place, LOL! My middle son’s favorite repeated request over the day is “shower!” But with three young children and lots to squeeze in over the day, often my gym clothes are my attire until I can shower after the kids go to bed at night. Not exactly glamorous. But for Valentine’s Day date night, I definitely want to get out of my gym clothes and feel great! I have put together a sweet, soft, and romantic look for this outfit. I hope you like it–I know my son hubby will. Also, I feel that since Valentine’s day was my least favorite holiday for many years, I have to emphasize that despite the romantic vibe of my outfit, the individual pieces could be worn on many different occasions, simply by switching up how they’re styled.
The top I am wearing is a cute little off the shoulder number that I bought from the Nordstrom sale after the holidays. Unfortunately it is sold out in pink, but in the Get This Look section below you can find a similar pink top option, and also check this in stock option. I paired this off the shoulder top with wine-colored velvet pants (similar)that I adore! They are very comfortable, soft, and in a great, almost neutral color that goes with so many things. I accessorized this romantic look with hearts, of course! Below is a similar version of an old heart scarf I have, which I styled on my purse, as the off the shoulder top doesn’t really need a scarf, and I just had to find a way to work it in somewhere! I am wearing just simple gold hoop earrings, but these gold hoops with hearts in the Get This Look section below are adorable for Valentine’s Day (and would make a great gift too, hint hint)! I love these comfy undies, and the heart print makes them extra cute. I copied my shoes from Lisa’s New Year’s Eve look, because I simply had to have these fabulous sangria velvet heels! Lastly, I kept the sweet theme going with my manicure, choosing polish by Vinylux (have you tried this stuff? It lasts over a week!) in the soft and pretty Be Demure shade.
Impossible to figure out what to buy for your hubby (or significant other!)? Me too! The gift I am holding in the photos below is our wedding song lyrics made into 3D heart art, which is perfect for the hard-to-buy-for significant other. My personal feeling is that you can never have too much art, especially art with personal meaning! Something similar would be this adorable picture collage art gift from Minted. Check it out and thank me later! 😀
We hope you liked our outfits and gift ideas, and that you all have a wonderful Valentine’s Day with the special people in your lives. Hugs, kisses, and lots of love to all our readers! 😘
